Professional: I’ve had an idea brewing in my mind for a fiction book that I’d love to write. I’ve gathered some research (since it’s historical fiction) and written out a few things, but I keep putting the project on the back burner. I’m determined that I’ll make significant progress on the book this year! I need to set a schedule and force myself to work on it instead of saving it for “someday.”
Family: I’m a workaholic. It doesn’t help that my office is in my home because the work is always “calling” to me! It’s so easy to slip into my desk chair and fire off a few more emails while the kids are playing. This year, I’m determined to say “no” to that screen more often and spend more time playing with my children instead. My “babies” are now nine years old, and I know it’s only a matter of time before they won’t want me to play with them. I don’t want them to remember their childhood as a time when their mom was always glued to the computer.
Fitness: I’m not overweight, but I’m out of shape. I’ve actually had people ask me why I’m gasping for breath when I run to answer the phone! I’m an introvert, so I really hate going to gyms or joining classes, but a friend and I have started walking several times a week. There are many days when we admit that we didn’t feel like walking and would probably quit if we’d tried to do it on our own, but having an accountability partner forces us to keep our commitment and keep walking! I know this will make me healthier in the long run, and also help me to have more energy for keeping up with my kids.
For those of you who have committed to be more fit this year by joining a gym (or resolving to attend your current gym more frequently), you won’t want to forget to take along a padlock for your gym locker. Master Lock has a large selection of high-quality locks that work well for this purpose. As a member of Master Lock’s Live Secure Safety Squad, I’ve had the opportunity to check out many of them, and one of my favorites is the Master Lock 1500iD Speed Dial Combination Padlock. This lock is unique because it opens on up, down, left and right directional movements, which means it’s much faster and easier to use than a standard rotary dial combination lock. You can create your own combination and reset it any time you like. And for those of you who prefer a more traditional lock, it includes adhesive letters, numbers, colors, shapes and symbols that you can apply over the arrows. This is also a very strong lock, so it’s unlikely to be broken off by intruders.
So, what about you? Have you set some goals for 2013? You’ll have a chance to answer that question in the Master Lock giveaway below!

ReplyDeleteSusan, Let me wish you luck with your professional goal because it is toughest of all the goals that you have mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI am an author therefore I know how difficult is to write a book. How we feel when we have a blank piece of paper staring at us,challenging us and we find it really hard to pour some ink. It becomes so difficult and frustrating when our mind is completely out of sync with our intention to write at-least one page of decent content! And more than often after struggling for a while, we give up and hope that tomorrow is going to be a better day, but that tomorrow keeps on eluding us.
As far as goals are concerned, very religiously, I write them down, year after year, only to find them unmet at the end of the year. With experience and after reading some nice motivational literature, I learned the importance of writing SMART goals,SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.
I want to eat better and lose weight. Im also going to read 6 Chicken Soup for the Soul books this year. I've won 6 so Im taking time everyday to read them
