Printed Books Giveaway Hop
February 1st to 7th
Yes, eBooks are becoming more and more popular, but many people still prefer printed books. With that in mind, this giveaway hop features only printed books (no eBooks allowed). After you enter my giveaway, you’ll find a list of the other participating blogs in the linky below the Rafflecopter form. Have fun!
For my giveaway, I am offering a copy of the adorable new hardcover children’s book, The Yuckiest, Stinkiest, Best Valentine Ever, by Brenda A. Ferber!
Whenever I talk to my 9-year-old twin boys about love, kisses, or valentines, I always get the typical boy-before-he-hits-puberty response, “Ewwww, that’s gross!” My boys already have girls calling them on the phone, but they insist that they will NEVER ever kiss one… So, they could really relate to the valentine character in the new children’s book by Brenda A. Ferber, The Yuckiest, Stinkiest, Best Valentine Ever!
In the book, a little boy named Leon uncharacteristically has a crush on a little girl and isn’t afraid to show it by making her the best valentine ever! He makes a heart out of construction paper, and even adds arms, legs and a face. But when he adds the words, “Dear Zoey Maloney, I love you! Love, Leon,” the valentine jumps out of his hands and proclaims that Leon’s words are “mushy and gross and just plain yucky!” Valentine’s Day, he insists, is about candy! (My boys were really nodding their heads at this point.)
Then the valentine begins to run, with Leon chasing after him. While he runs, he continues to say, “Love is yucky, stinky too. It will turn your brain to goo!” During their chase, Leon and the valentine encounter three boys playing basketball, three girls playing tag, and a group of teenagers. It’s funny to see how all three groups respond typically to what’s going on according to their gender or age. (Can you guess who thinks it’s “romantic” that Leon wants to send a valentine to a girl?)
Finally, they run into Zoey Maloney, the object of Leon’s crush! So, how will Zoey respond when she finds out that Leon made her a valentine declaring his love? You and your kids will have to read this story to find out! You’ll also find a little surprise when the valentine character has a "change of heart" at the end.
My boys love this book! They were also excited to see the hilarious illustrations by Tedd Arnold. He’s the author and illustrator of the bestselling Fly Guy and Huggly book series, of which my boys are HUGE fans. If you’re looking for an original, amusing, and charming Valentine’s Day book for children, you’ve got to pick up a copy of The Yuckiest, Stinkiest, Best Valentine Ever!
